Pinot Gris | 2023 | 12.5% Alc | Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Sussex, England
Pinot Gris has a history going back to medieval times. Known as the Grey Monk (gris = grey in French), the variety is an ancient pink-grey mutation of Pinot Noir, originating in Burgundy, where the vines thrived on the slopes of the Cote d’Or. Cistercian Monks spread these vines and their viticultural practices throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. Pinot Beurot is a synonym in Burgundy for the grape, named after the grey pink to even brown colour of the frieze (bure in French) worn by the Cistercian monks.
Adapting well to the English climate, the variety has complex citrus, apple and freshly cut pear and white peach flavours with a well balanced finish. A creamy texture from extended time on the yeast lees in tank is complimented by the fresh zesty flavours.
